Journey Through Sectors - Soft Drinks Closing the Glass Loop
In "Journey Through Sectors" video project, Close the Glass Loop produces videos for each of the market segments currently represented in the platform to highlight the ambition and commitment of sectors using glass packaging to reach the goal of 90% glass collection for recycling. Our second spotlighted sector features the soft drinks industry, where we delve into the essential subject of the significance of glass packaging in the world of soft drinks. We cover the sector's vision on sustainability, preferred functionalities of glass packaging, and several interesting case studies, giving you plenty of reasons to watch this insightful episode.
The EU glass packaging for recycling rate released
The latest data released today by Close the Glass Loop shows that the EU average collection for recycling rate of glass packaging remained stable at 80.2% in 2022. Notably, the amount of glass collected kept up with the significant increase in the amount of glass packaging placed on the market (+4.5%), indicating a positive trend in glass collection efforts across Europe.
The Roadmap to Optimise Closed Loop Recycling of Glass Packaging
The goal of this Roadmap is to set a pathway for Close the Glass Loop to further support the continued optimisation of the closed loop glass recycling process. In the context of closed-loop glass recycling, sorting glass coming from collection to get furnace-ready cullet as well as remelting furnace-ready cullet into new glass containers are both part of the virtuous recycling chain of glass. In this Roadmap we provide information on glass packaging and the closed loop glass recycling process, outline the key challenges to maximise the uptake of recycled content in the manufacturing of new glass containers and propose actions and pathways to address these challenges.
