The Placo® plant in Val-de-Cognac is innovating to reduce its environmental footprint. With the support of the French Agency for the ecological transition (ADEME), the heat emitted by its facilities – previously lost – is now recovered.
The Placo® plant in Val-de-Cognac, with a production capacity of around 30 million m² of plasterboard a year and 140 employees, has been working to reduce its environmental impact for several years now.
The inauguration of its innovative system for recovering and using the waste heat from its board dryer marks a new milestone in this strategy. Supported by ADEME, the Nouvelle-Aquitaine Region and the Water Board, this ambitious project required an investment of €11.4m.
The results are impressive:
14% reduction in CO2 emissions compared with 2019.
10.6% reduction in energy consumption through the use of waste heat, eliminating the need for a 900 kW gas boiler.
Almost 10% reduction in water consumption. The recovery of condensate water from the dryer steam, reinjected into the process, limits the amount of water drawn from the natural environment, thus conserving local resources.
Since 2010, Placo® has already reduced its CO2 emissions in France by almost 20%. The plant’s use of waste heat is a further illustration of its commitment to an increasingly decarbonized energy mix.
